INTERVIEW
Hi Luca, can you tell us how Artesky.it was born and what inspired you to enter the world of astronomical instruments?
Hi Pier, the Artesky brand was born 10 years ago thanks to my father Stefano, who has always been passionate about astronomy. He passed this passion on to us, and together we opened the company. I say CI because ours is a family business, first with my mother Patrizia, then myself, and finally my brother Alessandro. We also have other partners who help us with development.
The passion for the sky and nature were essential to enter this world
How has Artesky.it evolved over the years, and what have been the key moments in your business's growth?
From a small retailer, we have gradually become a recognized player in the astronomy sector in Italy and Europe, thanks in no small part to the trust of our customers and our ongoing commitment.
There was a very clear moment of growth during COVID, many people learned about astronomy and dedicated themselves to observing or photography from their own homes, this certainly helped us become better known.

Artesky.it offers a wide range of products, from telescopes to astrophotography accessories, binoculars, spotting scopes, camera traps, and thermal imaging cameras. What is the most popular product among your customers and why?
We are very active in the astronomy sector. I can't name a specific product, but right now the most requested item is definitely the harmonic mount because it easily solves the problem of equipment weight when our customers travel for observation or astrophotography.

How do you stay up-to-date and competitive with the latest innovations and technologies in astronomy and observation?
Research and development: We spend a lot of time studying and researching new methods of building, refining, and perfecting our products; at the same time, it also takes a lot of patience to search for the next product that could become revolutionary.

What type of clientele does Artesky.it serve? Have you noticed a change in your customer profile in recent years?
Over the years, we have refined our product selection, making us easily accessible to both beginners exploring astronomy and universities requiring a complete observatory for scientific research. In 2022, we became authorized dealers for Northern Italy for 10Micron, one of the world's most prestigious Italian companies specializing in professional mounts. Since 2014, we have refined our ARTEC series of professional instruments, which now includes a line of Newtonian astrographs ranging from 200mm to 300mm aperture. Scheduled for 2025, however, is the first Artesky 500mm RC, a significant step forward in large-diameter telescopes.

What advice would you give to those new to astronomy or astrophotography?
The advice I give most often is "what would you like to do?" Many people approach astronomy for the first time thinking it's as easy as many other hobbies, but that's completely false! You need to study, read, and educate yourself to learn how to best use an instrument, so I ask them what level they'd like to reach (visual or photographic) and help them get there in a way that's tailored to the client.
Is it possible to try out instruments before purchasing them in your shop? Do you have a showroom?
Yes, of course, you can try out the numerous models of binoculars from Kowa, Vortex and Swarovski Optik as well as a selection of APM products – in addition to the dozens of telescopes, of course!
What are the future trends in the field?or astronomical instruments and how do you see Artesky.it evolving in the coming years?
The smart telescope/smart eyepiece trend has certainly already arrived and will continue to develop. Astrophotography itself will change as new types of sensors arrive in our sector.
I see Artesky growing more and more in the industry in Europe.
Can you share with us an anecdote or personal experience that strengthened your passion for astronomy?
I have many anecdotes, certainly the thing that strengthens my passion the most is observing the sky from completely dark places, for example that time I observed the Magellanic Clouds from Cape Verde.
Finally, as a final question, do you use binoculars? And if so, do you use them to observe the sky or nature?
I mostly observe nature with binoculars when I go for a walk in the mountains, a CL Companion 8×30 is my trusty companion.
