ZIEL sports glasses technology: IR-Proof, Z-Vario UV-Proof Polar, oleophobic and anti-scratch coating

January 24, 2022 by Piergiovanni Salimbeni

The electromagnetic waves that constitute light radiation have different wavelengths. The shorter their wavelength, the greater their content. Ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) rays interact with the human eye. They can be divided as follows:

UV radiation: not visible from 100 to 400 nanometers

Visible radiation: from 390 to 760 nanometers

Infrared radiation: 700 to 10,000 nanometers. These are the hottest radiations and can reach the retina (up to 3,000 nm); higher radiations are absorbed by the atmosphere.

The new sports glasses are packed with technology that allows you to enjoy outdoor activities safely. Here's a quick look at their features.

ZIEL IR-Proof Technology

Both UV and IR radiation can damage eyesight by causing significant damage to the lens, including cataracts, photokeratitis, and blindness.

Ziel's new IR-Proof lenses are a novelty on the Italian market and can solve this problem. They significantly reduce the intensity of IR rays. The IR coating is applied to the lenses in high-vacuum laboratories to achieve maximum absorption of solar radiation.

The advantages of Ziel IR-Proof lenses are many:

  • 85% absorbs IR-A rays which can damage in the long run
  • Protection of the lens from the heat of IR radiation, minimizing the risk of developing cataracts.
  • Protecting the retina from irreversible damage.
  • No alteration of color perception, for perfect vision.
  • Total elimination of UV rays up to 400nm

Ziel Z-Vario Technology

This technology allows for progressive darkening of the lenses to adapt to multiple light conditions.
Ziel glasses are available in various intensities: high, medium or low.

ZIEL UV-Proof Polar technology

These lenses are able to protect the human eye from solar rays during outdoor activities in the presence of strong and intense light (at the seaside, in the mountains, at the lake, on snow, on ice and so on).

Thanks to exclusive treatments, these lenses allow only the information needed for vision to pass through, absorbing the rays that cause glare. This also prevents color distortion and eye irritation.

Ziel oleophobic treatment

This treatment facilitates the sliding of water drops on the surface of the lenses, allowing for quick cleaning.

Ziel anti-scratch treatment

Processing that gives the lens a particular tempering, increasing its durability over time and resistance to accidental abrasions

During 2022, Ziel sports glasses will be made available for field testing.
